Who is Makhaya Nitni ?

King William’s Town, Eastern Cape, South Africa is the place of birth of Makhaya Nitni. He is an right-arm fast bowler and a Former South African cricketer.

Makhaya Nitni was one of the most integral parts of the South African National cricket team, which triumphed the ICC Knockout Trophy in 1998.

Considered as a prodigy, Makhaya Nitni rose to prominence due to his strong built and unmatched athleticism, moreover, Nitni was also gifted with raw pace and lethal bowling prowess.

He had a glorious cricketing career, spanning over more than 16 years. Known for his lethal bowling prowess and bouncers, Makhaya Nitni was one of the most feared bowlers of his generation.

He was also the part of the South African cricket team which triumphed the Commonwealth games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998.

Domestic

Makhaya Nitni began his cricketing journey since a very young age, considered as a prodigy due to his raw talent. Nitni finally made his domestic cricket debut for South Africa first class side, Border.

He made his debut for Border against England XI in 1995. Nitni performed exceptionally well and took 2 wickets in his debut match.

Later on, He went onto a havoc and finished his rookie season with wickets (17) at bowling average (37.05).

Makhaya Nitni continued his dominant form and performed consistently in the domestic format.

He represented Border in domestic cricket for 7 seasons before signing for Warriors ahead of the 2004 season.

Makhaya Nitni represented Warriors for 8 seasons in domestic cricket.

Moreover, He also represented English county team, Warwickshire in 2005. The South African seamer spent only season with Warwickshire.

Overall, Makhaya Nitni played domestic cricket matches (465) having established wickets (1,039) at bowling average (27.13). He also amassed 1,600+ runs in domestic cricket.

International

Makhaya Nitni began his international Cricketing career with representing Under-19 South Africa national cricket team in 1995.

Due to his consistent performances, Makhaya Nitni earned his first call-up for the senior South Africa national cricket team. He made his one day international debut for South Africa against New Zealand in January, 1998.

Later on, he also earned his test team call-up for the South Africa national cricket team. He made his debut against Sri Lanka in March 19, 1998.

Known for his lethal bowling prowess and lethal bouncers, Makhaya Nitni quickly rose to prominence and established himself as one of the most feared pacers of his generation.

Makhaya Nitni dominated the International cricket stage for almost 13 years. During his glorious cricketing career, Makhaya Nitni represented South African National cricket team in matches (274) having established wickets (656) at bowling average (26.73) combined all formats.

Makhaya Nitni still remains the 3rd highest wicket-taker for South Africa in all formats. He is also the 7th fastest bowler to reach 250 ODI wickets, he achieved such feat in just 162 matches.

IPL

Makhaya Nitni played in the Indian Premier League for only one season. The South African seamer represented the Chennai Super Kings franchise in 2008 IPL edition.

The couple also have a son together, Thando Nitni. He is also following his father’s footsteps and pursuing Cricket as a career. He recently represented South Africa national cricket in the Under-19 stage.
