Rohit Sharma Believes Team India Can Overcome Upcoming Challenge

Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the most successful captains in the Indian Premier League, having led the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians to championship thrice.

Cricket news: Playing lot of cricket in England in the past will prove beneficial to us now, says Rohit

But Captain Rohit could not lead the defending champions to the playoffs this year in the 2018 IPL, due to a sluggish start. They however accelerated in the second phase of the tournament but fell just short of the playoff spot.

Now he has to get out of the IPL mood and switch back to the international mode as he is the part of ODI and T20I squad of India which will soon tour England and Ireland.

Before taking on the big challenge, Rohit is taking a break and enjoying with his family. “The IPL has just concluded so I want to take a small break to spend some quality time with my family,” Rohit told India TV during the show “Cricket Ki Baat”.

When asked about the upcoming England tour, Rohit said that the team had previously played so many times in that conditions that they would not find any problems to adapt to the situations.

“We have played a lot in England, so we don’t really need to change our practice style much for the tour,” he added.

Virat Kohli and Co. will play three ODIs and three T20Is against England. In their previous overseas tour against South Africa, the Men in Blue had won 5-1 ODI series and 2-1 T20I series, which has boosted their confidence and belief.

“This tour will be very challenging for us. Having said that, we can defeat them in England as we have players, skills and an aggressive captain,” the Indian vice-captain added.

India had last toured England in 2014 where they had lost in all the formats, with 3-1 loss in Tests and ODIs and also lost the one-off T20I match. But the positive thing in that tour was that India won the historic Lord’s Test.

“We led India’s fightback last time we toured England. We managed to draw the first Test, won second and then lost the momentum. But we have a strong team now. Our team is performing well both in India and overseas and that too in all three formats,” Rohit said.

The 2019 World Cup is knocking at the door and all the teams are figuring out their team combination and gearing up for the biggest cricket tournament.

“The World Cup is there in our perspective, but it is 10-11 months away. All we need right now is that we play good cricket, figure out best combinations in limited-over matches we play ahead of the World Cup,” concluded Rohit.
