Who is Lungi Ngidi?
Lungisani Ngidi was born March 29, 1996. He is a South African professional cricketer who now plays for the South African national side.
He was awarded one of the five Cricketers of the Year at the 2018 South African Cricket Annual Awards.
Ngidi was selected ODI and T20I cricketer of the year at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards event in July 2020.

Where does Lungi come from?
Ngidi grew up in Kloof, Durban, and attended Highbury Preparatory School on scholarship. Ngidi’s mother worked as a domestic servant and his father as a maintenance worker at a nearby school when he was growing up. Ngidi was awarded a scholarship to Hilton College School.
Ngidi played rugby for Hilton throughout his first three years at the school before switching to cricket. Ngidi was taught at Hilton by former Zimbabwe all-rounder Neil Johnson.
Ngidi enrolled in a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Industrial Sociology at the University of Pretoria after graduating from Hilton.
How is the career of Lungi Ngidi going on?
Ngidi was named to South Africa’s Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the series against Sri Lanka in January 2017.
On January 20, 2017 Ngidi made his T20I debut for South Africa against Sri Lanka and was named man of the match.
Ngidi was picked for South Africa’s One Day International (ODI) team for the series against Sri Lanka. However, due to an abdominal ailment he was forced to be ruled out of the ODI series which delayed his ODI Debut.
Ngidi was named for South African Test team in January 2018, before the second Test against India. On January 13, 2018, he made his Test debut for South Africa against India.
In his debut match, he took 7/87, including 6/39 in the second innings, as South Africa went on to win the match by 135 runs. He was picked to South Africa’s One Day International (ODI) team for their series against India later that month. On February 7, 2018, he finally got the chance and made his ODI debut against India.
Ngidi was handed a national contract by Cricket South Africa in March 2018, ahead of the 2018-19 season. He was picked to South Africa’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019.
Ngidi recorded his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket on March 4, 2020, against Australia in the second ODI. In the same game, he became South Africa’s fastest bowler in terms of matches to take 50 wickets in ODIs, achieving it in his 26th game.
Ngidi was picked to South Africa’s team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in September 2021. Ngidi recorded his maiden five-wicket haul in T20I cricket in the opening match of the series against England in July 2022.
