Karun Kaladharan Nair, born December 6, 1991, is an Indian international cricketer who currently plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. 

He bats right-handed in the top order and bowls off break. He is only the second Indian hitter in Test history to record a triple century.

He made his India debut in an away ODI against Zimbabwe in 2016. In 2016, he made his Test debut against England.

Karun was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on December 6, 1991. His parents, Kaladharan Nair and Prema Nair, are from Chengannur in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. 

Kaladharan, a mechanical engineer, was stationed in Jodhpur at the time of his son’s birth and afterwards relocated to Koramangala, Bangalore, where he also worked on the sprinkler system at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. 

Prema Nair, Nair’s mother, is a teacher at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bangalore. Shruthi Nair is Karun’s elder sister.

Karun’s parents were urged by physicians to introduce their preterm infant to sports as part of the therapy for his weak lungs. 

Nair began his coaching career at Koramangala Cricket Academy on March 28, 2001, a year after his family relocated to Bengaluru. He attended Chinmaya Vidyalaya, where his mother taught till the fourth grade, before transferring to Frank Anthony Public School for greater cricket prospects. 

He received his BCom (Hons) degree from Jain University in Bangalore. He speaks English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil fluently. His native language is Malayalam.

How was the international career of Karun Nair?

Nair was picked to the Indian ODI and T20I teams for their series against Zimbabwe in May 2016, and made his ODI debut in the series on 11 June 2016 at Harare Sports Club.

He made his Test debut against England on November 26, 2016, in Mohali. He struck his first Test century in the series finale at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, with 303 not out. 

He was just three innings into his international career at the time, making him the quickest batter in Test cricket history to record a first triple-hundred. 

He was also India’s second triple-centurion after Virender Sehwag, and just the third player in history to convert a maiden Test tonne into a triple.

 India won the match by an innings and 75 runs, and Nair was voted the match’s MVP.
