ICC Reveals New Test Rankings; Kohli In Deep Trouble

In the recently revealed ICC Test rankings, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has reached his career-best points. He has got to 915 points courtesy to a double century against Bangladesh.

Because of Williamson’s 200 not out in Hamilton, the Kiwis won the first Test by an innings and 52 runs. Kane also lifted the Man of the Match award because of his brilliant innings.

The knock lifted him from 897 points to 915 in the Test rankings. He is now just seven points behind of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who is at the top of the Test rankings with 922 points. The Kiwis will play two more Tests against Bangladesh. As a result Williamson has a chance to regain the top spot again, which he did briefly at the end of 2015.

Williamson’s 915 points mean he is now the highest New Zealander in regards to Test ranking points. Richard Hadlee was the other Kiwi player who cross the 900-point mark. Hadlee got to a career-best 909 points in bowling.

Other Kiwi batsmen like Tom Latham and Jeet Raval have also made progress because of their centuries in Hamilton. Latham scored 161, which lifted him to his career-best 11th position.

He is now just three points behind South Africa’s Faf de Plessis, who holds the 10th position with 702 points. Raval got his maiden century after scoring seven fifties. As a result he gained five slots and reached 33rd position.

Changes in bowlers’ rankings

Kiwi bowlers Trent Boult and Tim Southee has remained in the top ten. However Boult has dropped two places to eighth while Southee remained on ninth position.

Another Kiwi bowler Neil Wagner took seven wickets in Hamilton, which included a five-wicket haul in first innings. This helped him to move up three places and reach 11th position.

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal scored 126 and 74 in Hamilton. As a result he gained 11 slots and reached 25th position. In the process he overtook his teammate Shakib Al Hasan and became his country’s top-ranked batsman in Tests.

Mahmudullah scored 22 and 146 in the first Test which moved him 12 places up and he reaced his career-best 40th position. Soumya Sarkar scored 1 and 149 in Hamilton. This helped him to gain 25 places to reach 67th position. In the bowlers’ list, Mahmudullah gained three places and reached 63rd position.
