Australian Sports Minister Has ‘Cricket Crush’ On Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was his team’s highest scorer in the past overseas tours of South Africa and England. However that is not the case in the ongoing Test series against Australia. But that hasn’t stopped his fan following from growing in all these parts of the world.

On the day of New Year, the Indian and Australian team reached the official residence of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. There the Australian Sports Minister, Bridget McKenzie, was also present. While introducing Virat Kohli, she called the Indian skipper as her ‘cricket crush’.

The visitors are currently leading the four-match Test series by 2-1. If they win the Sydney Test, starting from Thursday, they will create history by winning their maiden Test series Down Under.

India won the first Test at Adelaide, but Australia bounced back at Perth and tied the series 1-1. However they outplayed the hosts in every department in Melbourne and won the game by 137 runs.

With the Boxing Day Test win, Kohli equalled former captain Sourav Ganguly’s record of winning the most number of Tests abroad. Moreover he also became the second captain after Bishan Singh Bedi to win two Tests Down Under.

Kohli loved the introduction

The Indian skipper is currently world’s number one batsman in both Tests and ODIs. While Australian Sports Minister was introducing Kohli, she couldn’t suppress her excitement and revealed that she is a huge admirer of King Kohli.

“It now gives me great pleasure to introduce…I’ve got a total cricket crush (a major admirer of his cricket skill) on this guy. Mr Virat Kohli, known worldwide as the best batsmen in the world and that passion that he brings on the pitch and on the field is just so exciting to watch…even though I hope you lose this week!,” said Bridget McKenzie.

Kohli later said that it was a “lovely introduction”. Kohli has so far hit one century in the series at Perth. As a result he had equalled his compatriot Sachin Tendulkar’s record of hitting six centuries Down Under.

While his century at Perth couldn’t save his team from defeat, his on-field gestures came under lot of scrutiny. However the 30-year-old captain has led his team to a win at Melbourne and has taken an unassailable lead. It is now up to the Aussies to save the last Test and square the series.
