Dimuth Karunaratne Gets Arrested For Drunk Driving

Dimuth Karunaratne, the Sri Lankan Test captain, has landed himself in serious trouble. While he is expected to be a role model for many people, he himself violated some rules and is currently behind the bars.

The left-handed cricketer was arrested for drunk driving which had resulted in an accident. The incident happened on 31 March 2019 at around 5:15 AM. Karunaratne was driving his car in Kynsey Road, Borella where he collided with a three-wheeler.

The driver of the three-wheeler suffered minor injuries. According to some reports it is revealed that the driver of the three-wheeler was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo.

No serious trouble for Dimuth

Reports later suggested that Dimuth was under the influence of alcohol while behind the wheels. Thus he was arrested and taken to the Police Headquarters. Later the police released a statement stating no one was heavily injured. As a result Dimuth might be just fined in the court for drunk driving. 

Dream start as Test captain

For the recently-concluded Test series against South Africa, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to drop skipper Dinesh Chandimal. In place of him Dimuth was given the responsibility to lead his country.

Karunaratne had a dream start as Sri Lanka won both the Tests under his leadership. In the process they also became only the third country to win Test series in the Rainbow Nation. Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera was named Man of the Series for his scintillating batting.
