Cricketers Share Concerns Via Tweets On NZ Shooting

15 March 2019 will forever remain a black day in the history of New Zealand. This is because of the grim incident of the terrorist shooting in Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch.

The terrorist activity has resulted in a number of deaths which is increasing with every passing hour. A video of the shooting went viral in the social media too. Meanwhile the Bangladesh cricket team narrowly escaped from the horrific incident.

The Tigers were in the land of the Kiwis for a three-match Test series. The visitors had already lost the previous two games and were scheduled to play the third Test at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Before the game day cricketers including top batsman Tamim Iqbal went to the mosque to offer prayers. After they heard the noise of the shooting, the players and staff members weren’t allowed to leave the bus.

Later they left the bus and went to the stadium. There they were locked in the dressing room to keep them safe. The official Twitter handle of the Black Caps later confirmed their safety. They also cancelled the final game keeping in mind the players’ security.

The Australia U19 Women’s team were also in the same hotel and were reportedly safe. The incident has frightened all the Bangladeshi cricketers. Players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal shared their horrendous experiences on Twitter.

The entire cricketing fraternity shared their concerns for the players over Twitter too. This includes Sri Lankan players like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena. Both of them were witnesses of a similar kind of incident when terrorist attacked Sri Lankan team bus outside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in 2009.
