It was just one year when wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik became a hero for his country. The incident happened in the Nidahas Trophy final against Bangladesh. He slammed a six in the final delivery to win the game for his country.

But yesterday the game showed Karthik what a leveller it can be. This time also Karthik saw himself in a crunch situation against New Zealand. But unfortunately he couldn’t pull out the heroics in this match.

Despite batting well in the match and starting the final over on strike, Karthik found himself in a lot of criticisms. This is because he denied his batting partner Krunal Pandya a single in the final over.

Till that final over both of them had played extremely well. India were chasing a high target of 213 in 20 overs. But things didn’t go according to plan and they found themselves reeling at 145 for 6. But then the duo came when India needed 68 off just 28 balls.

Both the players added 52 from the next 22 balls and brought the equation to 16 off the last over. In this era of big hitting, that target was achievable. But Karthik in the heat of moment and in the zest of clearing the fence, refused to take a single off the third delivery.

Karthik remain unmoved and Krunal had to rush back

After Karthik hit the ball in the long-on region, Krunal ran to take the single and almost reached Karthik’s end. But Karthik refused to move and hence the left-hander had to go back.

It was more shocking as Pandya was also connecting the ball well. So far he had scored 25 off just 12 balls with two fours and two sixes. Eventually they had to take two singles before Karthik finished the over with a six. But that wasn’t enough as India lost the game by four runs and the series 1-2.

Karthik faced all the criticisms around the world for his work. Even Pandya’s IPL franchise Mumbai Indians took an indirect jive at Karthik. In the tweet they rued the fact that Krunal only got one ball to face in the final over despite hitting the ball well.
