In the IPL auction when a youngster sees his bid go higher, it brings a smile to his face. But for some it becomes a case of disappointment when he see themselves remaining unsold.

One of those unlucky players is Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary. He was part of the Rising Pune Supergiants side which went into the finals in 2017. Last year he played for Kings XI Punjab but unfortunately he went unsold in the auction this year.

Manoj has so far played in 98 IPL games for various franchises. When speaking about the auction, the 33-year-old said that it is really difficult to handle such situations. However he still has to move on. He also credited his wife Sushmita Roy for helping him in this difficult phase.

“It’s a professional world and things like these (happen). As a cricketer, you have to move forward. So, yeah, I have to keep working hard on my game and be prepared for the coming year and yeah, that’s about it.

“I have been through so many ups and downs and, you know, I keep motivating myself. I only need the close members of my family – my wife – they are all very cooperative. Don’t need anybody else to help me out on this. So basically yeah, I have been like motivating myself to deal with the situation and yeah, can’t do much about it, not in our control,” Tiwary said in an interview to Indian Express.

Tiwary criticizes the selection criteria of the franchises

During the 2017 IPL season, Manoj won Stylish player award four times while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants. He also performed consistently in the domestic circuit. Despite all these he wasn’t selected for which Manoj questions about the selection criteria of the franchises.

“Even I am short of answers, to be honest. You say I have been a consistent performer in first-class cricket in all the formats over the years, I even won the FBB (most stylish player) award four times in IPL the year before and despite all that, I don’t get a place in any of the teams. This is some kind of a mystery. But having said that, I actually don’t understand how the dynamics of the IPL auctions work,” the right-handed batsman further added.
