Yuvraj Singh Family:

In 1981,12 December Yuvraj Singh was born in a Sikh family,  Yuvraj Singh family comprise with His father Yograj Singh was a former Indian cricket and his mother Shabnam Singh is a house wife, and a brother Zoravar Singh,  Yuvraj did his schooling from Dav school, Chandigharand, Yuvraj Singh and Hazel first met in a friends party and after a couple of meeting they started dating together, after a couple of years of dating with the British model, on 30th November 2016 Yuvraj and Hazel tied a knot with Hazel Kitch.

Yuvraj Singh career started in the year of 1995, wherein he represented the state in the U-16 tournament making a debut against Jammu Kashmir. He then made his U-19 debut for Punjab in the subsequent year and scored an impressive 137* against Himachal Pradesh as well.

He broke into the Punjab Ranji trophy squad in 1997 and made his debut against the state of Orissa but unfortunately got out for a duck in the match. Everyone remembers the scene from the movie MS Dhoni The Untold Story where Dhoni recollects the first time he saw Yuvraj Singh bat – the- U19 Cooch Behar trophy.

When one is young, aspiring to play for the country, doing well, any hindrance, like injury or being out of form, can be frustrating and a cause of annoyance or even anger. But once you have a close encounter with death, you realise the real value of life.

This was the start of the numerous memories Yuvraj would create. Bihar had scored a total of 356 in the first innings in reply to which Singh scored a massive 358 himself and announced himself to everyone, that was the first time when Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni envisaged each other.

Yuvraj then went on to represent India U-19 in the ICC Cricket World Cup which was held in Sri Lanka– he won the Player of the Tournament award for his brilliant all-round contributions and earned a call to the national side.

He was also among the first batch of players who were admitted to the NCA (National Cricket Academy) in its inaugural year.

Following his impressive run of play in the U-19 World, Cup Yuvraj got a chance to represent India in the 2000 ICC Knockout Trophy and Yuvraj first match was against Kenya.

His performance against Australia who had an experienced bowling attack at that time of an 84 run knock of 80 deliveries earned him the Man of the Match award and helped India get the win.

The ICC tournament was followed by a tri-series involving India, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe. His performance in this, however, was poor as he averaged only above 15 and was hence dropped.

Yuvraj’s form, however, didn’t improve a lot in the next year though. He was selected for the Coca Cola Cup against Sri Lanka where he failed to shine with bat apart from scoring a 98* in the fifth and final match,

but impressed with the ball and took 8 wickets. In the Standard Chartered Bank series involving South Africa and Kenya he failed to have any real impact and was dropped again.

He returned to Domestic cricket with a bang after a string of disappointing performances and scored a mammoth 209 for the North Zone against South Zone in the Duleep Trophy,2002.

He was immediately called up for the last two ODI’S against Zimbabwe. In the 4^th ODI at Hyderabad, he won the Man of the Match award for scoring 80 off 60 and also played well in the final ODI at Guwahati scoring 75 and led India to a series victory.

The 2002 NatWest series in England against the hosts and Sri Lanka was one of the major turning points in Yuvraj Singh’s career.

In both the initial matches first against England his all-round performance got him the Man of the Match award for his 64* and 3/39 and a crucial partner in the next match against Sri Lanka. India eliminated Sri Lanka in a win in which Singh contributed 37 and reached the final to face the hosts in Lord’s.

In a match which is considered as one of the finest in the history of Indian cricket, the visitors chased a mammoth target after England scored 325 in the first innings.

Along with former U-19 teammate, Mohammed Kaif and Singh mustered up a 121 run partnership after India was struggling in the middle overs. Yuvraj contributed 69 runs to guide India to a memorable victory.

The match may be remembered for Sourav Ganguly’s antics in the Lord’s dressing room but it was one of the first glimpses to show what Yuvraj could actually be.

2003 was the year the ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP was held in South Africa; but before that came the ICC Champions Trophy which was held in September of 2002 in Sri Lanka.

Yuvraj had an average series and played well in the semi-final against South Africa. Following this came the two major 7 matches ODI series- the first against West Indies at home and the next against New Zealand in their own backyard.

He scored consecutive half-centuries against West Indies but struggled for form against a formidable New Zealand bowling lineup. Although he had an average run of form he was included in the 15 man squad of India for the World Cup.

Yuvraj had a decent first World Cup scoring two half-centuries against  Pakistan and Kenya respectively along with a crucial 42 against England but failed to shine in the final against a rival which would turn into favorites in the latter part of his career-. Australia.

Although 2003 marked a painful chapter for India it was rather eventful for Yuvraj. He scored his maiden ODI century against Bangladesh in Dhaka and also made his test debut against New Zealand in his home ground Mohali. He also became the second Indian to represent the Yorkshire County Cricket Club after Sachin Tendulkar.

2005 was the year Singh’s form began to flourish- the Indian Oil Cup held in Sri Lanka proved helpful to his batting strengths. Scoring 192 runs in 4 matches at an average of 48 he scored his third international ODI century against the West Indies.

Following the tour in Sri Lanka, he then was selected for the Videocon Cup involving New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Here he got his 4^th ODI century against Zimbabwe at Harare scoring a respectable 120 to lead India to victory.

The tour in Pakistan came in February of the next year – Yuvraj was named in both the Test and ODI squads. He had a quiet first 2 tests but came out in the 3^rd test at Karachi – scoring 45 in the first innings and then 122  in the second, he top-scored for India.

Yuvraj had a great run in the ODI series scoring 82*  and then 79* in the 2^nd and 3^rd ODI at  Rawalpindi and Lahore respectively.

In the fifth and final ODI Yuvraj scored a staggering 107* from 93 deliveries to not only lead India to victory in the game but also the series. For his contributions with the bat and ball, he has adjudged the Player of the Series.

The 2007 ICC T20 WORLD CUP which was held in South Africa was a big turning point for not only the overall game but for a new generation of Indian cricket. With most of the senior players out of the squad, Mahendra Singh Dhoni ( Captain) and Yuvraj Singh (Vice-captain) were to lead the young Indian side.

But how can one wrote about the 2007 T20 World Cup and not talk about the Yuvraj’s 6 sixes in a row against. The 18^th over of the Indian innings was to be bowled by English speedster Stuart Broad.

In the previous over a few words were exchanged between Freddie Flintoff and Yuvraj which lead the latter to be pumped. Broad came steaming in at Kingsmead and was cleanly dispatched for one of the biggest hits of the tournament.

The next delivery was on his legs and Yuvraj whipped it over square leg. A wide full toss was hammered over point and a flourishing drive ensured that the next ball was in the stands too.

Then England captain Nasser Hussain was under extreme pressure and instantly raised to Broad- the result? Six again. The final delivery, the crowd on its feet, the Indian team on its feet, the commentary box on its feet.

Yuvraj Singh Cancer Story:

A fighter on the pitch Singh was also a fierce fight loiter off the pitch. Diagnosed with cancer in 2011, he first started showing signs when he would wake up at night and cough severely but overlooked it at that time.

He ignored it at that time in fear that it would mean to leave cricket for him and kept on playing with informing anyone. He played the entire 2011 World Cup with unbearable pain and still came out on top.

In January when proper tests were conducted the results were very difficult to believe. The results showed the growth of a tumor in his chest which was a cause for concern.

I cried like a baby. When no one could see me or hear me. Not because I feared what cancer would do, but because I didn’t want the disease. I wanted my life to be normal, which it could no longer be.

He was diagnosed with a germ cell cancer known as mediastinal seminoma which caused a tumor in between in his left lung and heart and appeared like a ball on his chest growing up to 14 centimeters.

He was treated by the same doctor who cured Lance Armstrong in the United States and was admitted in January and released in March following with which he was under rehabilitation till May.

While being admitted he used to read the autobiography of Lance Armstrong and his cancer struggle to stay inspired and never be down.

He is said to have quoted in an interview when asked about Yuvraj Singh cancer journey – “ Don’t be scared… Be positive… Please don’t think that your life is about to end… Take the right advice and act as soon as you can… If there’s an issue in your system, don’t ignore it… Look at me, I never thought I’d get the chance to again play for India, but I’ve beaten cancer…

God has given me this opportunity and my love for cricket has brought me back. I see this alone as a huge achievement… The experience has made me stronger (in the mind)… If you’re strong, then you automatically become a much more positive person. Cancer doesn’t mean that you’re going to die. “

Yuvraj Singh Retirement:
