Yuvraj Slams 80 off 57; Scores Big After Long Time

Former Indian superstar Yuvraj Singh was picked at the last moment in the IPL auction of this year. The 37-year-old might have already played his last World Cup.

He didn’t even play any memorable innings for Punjab in this year’s Ranji Trophy. But some glimpses of his vintage batting talent was on display in some occasions.

Recently Yuvraj reminded everyone of  his fine batting touch. He scored a fabulous 80 off 57 balls for Air India in the ongoing DY Patil T20 Cup tournament in Mumbai.

The dashing innings from the left-hander came just before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and 2019 IPL. Seeing his big innings IPL franchise Mumbai Indians would have some confidence lifted. This is because they had purchased Yuvi at the dying moments of the auction.

Yuvi first added 51 runs with Paul Valthaty. Paul is also a past star of IPL. Later Yuvi added another 88 runs with Sujit Nayak. Both these partnerships helped Air India post 169 for 7 in 20 overs against Mumbai Customs.

However they failed to defend the score as Customs reached the target in the last over with the loss of just one wicket. The Man of the Series in the 2011 World Cup bowled one over. But unfortunately he leaked 12 crucial runs in that over.

Yuvi was purchased by Mumbai Indians for base price of Rs. 1 Crore. The franchise also purchased Sri Lankan veteran pacer Lasith Malinga.

This IPL will be Yuvraj’s sixth appearance in the history of the tournament. The batting all-rounder had missed one season because of his illness.

Last season he had a poor outing with Kings XI Punjab. He played eight games and scored just 65 runs. As a result KXIP released him before the auction.
