Three-times champions Chennai Super Kings has been one of the most successful teams in IPL. As they are also the defending champions, a lot of expectations are on them.

MS Dhoni-led side won the first two games. However Kolkata Knight Riders are ahead of them in the league table based on a superior Net Run Rate (NRR).

In between playing some great cricket, CSK are having some trouble off the field. Before the start of the tournament, they lost their main South African pacer Lungi Ngidi due to injury.

Ngidi injured himself in the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka. Now CSK has been jolted with another blow. As per reports fast-bowling English all-rounder David Willey has opted to pull out of the entire 2019 IPL edition.

Reasons behind the decision

Reports suggest that the 28-year-old cricketer has stayed home for the birth of his second child. Previously he had delayed his trip to India. But now he has completely cancelled his plan altogether.

Willey was bought in the previous season as a replacement. He had went unsold in the auction where his base price was INR 2 crore. In the previous season Kedar Jadhav injured himself in the first game against Mumbai Indians.

After Kedar’s injury, the Northampton-born Willey also injured his hamstring. Overall he had played only three matches. In those games he picked up two wickets at an economy rate of 9.5. Willey is currently in Leeds, preparing himself for Yorkshire, which is his county side in English domestic cricket.

After Ngidi and Willey’s exit, CSK have only six foreign players. They haven’t yet announced the replacement of Ndigi and Willey. CSK will play their next game against Rajasthan Royals on March 31.
