FC Goa currently at the bottom of the ISL 2016 table with 11 points from their 12 games and now they will against a high-flying Delhi Dynamos FC, who are presently fourth in the table with 17 points from 11 matches.
Even after knocked out from the Indian Super League 2016, the Brazilian legend and FC Goa’s head coach insisted despite the fact that the Gaurs were now out of semis contention his men will not let up in terms of intensity against the Dynamos. Zico wants his side to play for the Jersey and for the fans of FC Goa
As Zico said,
“We are professionals. We are aware of the jersey we are wearing and the fans around us. We will play with the same intensity and give everything we have got,”
When the 63-year-old Brazilian legend has been asked what went wrong with their campaign this year,
“Many things happened. One reason was that when all the teams were being prepared with new signings, we faced a fine and couldn't put a team together properly. We did not have much time either. We also lost some players who were important for us last season. There were many matches in which the referee made mistakes, like the match against Kerala, so we lost valuable points. I know no one is perfect but everything I did was for the best.” Zico admitted.
Zico also admitted that he would love to be back next season because he loves Goa and also believes that Goa loves him but he will be back only if club wants him, so nothing is sure.
“We have to see if they want us. People from Goa love me, I love Goa. I would love to come back. But we will have to wait and see. There will be changes. As of now nothing is sure,”
And lastly he shared his experience in India over the past three years and admitted that the Indian players should be more chance to play to develop the Indian players,
As Zico concluded,
“One thing I noticed is the fans and they have been very passionate. I saw some good football being played. However, there should be interactions between all teams. The Indian players should also be given more chances to play. Also, matches should be played against international teams to improve the standard. Teams from Italy, Germany and Spain should come and interact with the players and teach them.”
