Portugal far from Ideal: Santos

Football News: The Portuguese manager knows that his side has to improve in a lot of areas; despite they claim a resounding victory against Algeria in Lisbon.

Fernando Santos believes his side has still a lot to improve before the world cup.

Last night Portugal won their match with flying colours against Algeria, they dominated the match from the beginning, still, their manager feels his side has to improve in many areas.

Ronaldo was on the starting Xi for his side before the grandest stage and made one assist to the young Goncalo Guedes,  last night the youngster scored a brace against Algeria.

Portugal will face Spain on June 15th in their first group match.

The Portuguese coach said: "We are still far from ideal, it is with the championship that we will grow,"

"There are some things to fine-tune, there are players who are playing for the first time together in this selection."

The young Guedes, caught the attention of everyone with his performance last night, he managed to upstage the Portuguese captain Ronaldo on these 150th appearances for his country.

With that win, the Portuguese ended their three matches endless run.

Santos voiced: "There were good things, but there are things to improve,"

"In the first 20 or 25 minutes the team were good, compact and quick to react to the ball.

"If their strikers did not shine, it's a lot of merit for my team. We made a goal in that period and we could have done more.

"Thereafter we slowed down, but then we got back to normal, there were spaces to make goals and we did."

"You cannot draw any conclusions from this game.
Obviously, we are getting closer to the starting XI, but the most important thing is to feel that I have 23 players prepared to compete."
