The 46 year old former Arsenal player thinks that Simeone could be the successor in place for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.


According to petit if the French manager Wenger leaves the Arsenal club after the end of this season then they must hire Simeone.

After this season Arsene Wenger will be out of contract with Arsenal club and his future is in doubt as they his team has face defeat in their last two games against Watford and Chelsea,

After this season if Wenger did not sign a new contract with them then his 20 year realm with Arsenal will be over.

The 46 year old former Arsenal player thinks that the Atletico Madrid coach Simeone will be the perfect replacement for him at the Emirates stadium.

He added: "If Arsene leaves I'd like to see Simeone from Atletico Madrid (replace him)," the 1997/98 Double winner told Soccer AM. "

"What he has done for the last five years at Atletico is amazing, given the two top guns in Spain in Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"They are still competing every season with them in La Liga and the Champions League, that is a huge achievement.


"On top of that he has the discipline and vision to how he wants his players to play on the pitch, with high intensity and respect.

"That could be something very good for Arsenal, but only if Arsene leaves."

Petit also has his faith on his former coach Wenger under whom he played at Monaco and also at Arsenal.

He further added about the Arsenal players 

He said: "Arsenal have spent a lot of money in the transfer market in the last two years," he added. "

"There is a lot of speculation surrounding Arsene. The question should be asked about the players in the squad. I think 30 per cent should be leaving the club."
