But, after Sunday’s draw against Liverpool, the United’s striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes Manchester United made simple mistakes in the first half of their 1-1 draw with Liverpool but believes a change to a direct style made all the difference.
When James Milner scored a first-half penalty after a handball from Paul Pogba and took the lead by 1-0 in favor of Manchester United it was like Manchester United were heading to a damaging Premier League defeat against their rivals at Old Trafford as even after Jose Mourinho’s side has more of the ball possession and dominating both the halves, till the last min. of the Sundays game the score was in favor of the visitors Liverpool.
But, in the 84th min. of the game, the former Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has already scored more than 300 goals in his career and currently the top scorer of Manchester United scored the equalizer to save United from a home defeat against their rival Liverpool FC, but he believes Manchester United made simple mistakes in the first half, which cost them a home draw on Sunday.
As Ibrahimovic said in an interview with Sky Sports, "We got one point, we were not at the top of our game and it was a hard fight,"
"We were 1-0 down and chased and chased. It was a different game in the second half and we got an equaliser in the end.
"We made simple mistakes in the first half. We were not feeling comfortable under the pressure of the opponent and we played the wrong way.
"If we played like the second half in the first it would be a different game.”
"They played with high pressure and in the first half there were too many mistakes in our build up, so we chose to go more direct in the second half.
"We were more direct, we didn't build from behind – we put it up and started from there instead."
