As after the German man Nicolai Adam was sacked by AIFF president Praful Patel following accusations of physical abuse against him by the young players, the English man and India head coach Stephen Constantine has been asked to take temporary charge of the under-17 squad preparing for World Cup later this year and currently he is in Goa with the Indian U-17 World Cup Squad gearing for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 India.
But now it seems like the AIFF has found the right man to guide India’s fortunes at the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year as the AIFF general secretary Kushal Das has recently revealed that the former Portugal U-21 coach Luis Norton de Matos is their number one candidate and they are calling him for an interview on March 27 with the AIFF president (Praful Patel) and sports secretary (Injeti Srinivas). If all goes well, he will be appointed as coach.
Out of 75 applications, the advisory committee of the AIFF shortlisted eight candidates and after video calls with all of them decided 63-year-old Luis was best-suited to replace Nicolai Adam, who parted ways with the AIFF after an alleged fall-out with the players.
As in an interview with the Times of India on Wednesday, the AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said, “Luis is our number one candidate. We are calling him for an interview on March 27 with the AIFF president (Praful Patel) and sports secretary (Injeti Srinivas). If all goes well, he will be appointed as coach,”
