The German forward Lukas Podolski, who scored a sensational goal against England in his final game for Germany on Wednesday, has spent three seasons at Arsenal working under Wenger before moving to the Turkish professional football club Galatasaray.
And after a win against England on Wednesday the 31-year-old forward admits is baffled by the Gunners' recent downturn in form, which has led to increasingly loud calls for Wenger to step down from the position he has held since September 1996.
As speaking to the Sky Sports News HQ, Podolski said, "I follow nearly every match – when not live then on social media – and I don't know what has happened,"
"Arsene Wenger is a good guy and a good coach. He built this club from nothing to now. It will be interesting what happens in the next few months."
And when Podolski has been asked if he believed Wenger should stay, Podolski added, "I don't know who the guy is that can replace him. He is Arsenal."
