The Goa based ISL club FC Goa has got the best result of their hard work as they defeated the Brazilian giants Clube de Regatas do Flamengo by 1-0 on 22nd Sep Thursday, at the Flamengo's training centre, Centro de Treinamento George Helal.
FC Goa started their game with 4-4-2 formation with the Brazilian star defender Lucio’s captaining from the Center back. The last season star midfielder Jofre Mateu González simply known as Jofre controlled that midfield area alongside Richarlyson Barbosa, Sanjay Balmuchu and Trindade Goncalves and the front line was controlled by the Indian international Robin Singh along with the match scorer Rafael Coelho.
In the first half both team suffered because of their loose pass and less possession which kept things level at half time.
In the second both teams came with more spirit to win and in 55th min. Rafael Coelho gave FC Goa the lead, which they deserved as Goa’s defender Raju Gaikwad put the ball down the line for Robin Singh, whose powerful shot was saved by the Flamengo's goalkeeper and the ball to fall into Rafael Coelho’s path.
But after that goal the Brazilian giants gave their 100% to equalize the score, but the Goa’s strong defense did not break down and gave Goa the win which they deserves in their pre-season tour of Brazil under the coaching of the Brazilian legend Zico.
And the Gaurs are all set for their return to India on 25th Sep. as FC Goa will kick start their third season of Indian Super League with an away match against the Highlanders Northeast United F.C. on 4th Oct. Tuesday.
