Lionel Messi is one of the star players in Europe who has always been a one-club legend. Although he has been linked to various transfers, it is likely that he will remain at Barcelona.
Despite having been linked to various moves, Barcelona has never got an offer regarding Messi: Bartomeu
Messi, who is currently 31 years old, had joined Barcelona at a tender age of 13 through the youth system in the club and has been with them since then.
The legendary striker has always been linked with a move away from the club, and the claim has strengthened over the few years with Manchester City being labelled as the potential destination.
But Barcelona club President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, said that the club has never received an offer and no other club has even asked the price for the five-time Ballon d’Or and four-time Champions League winner.
In an interview to RAC 1, he said, "No one has ever called Barca to ask how much Messi is worth. There is still time for Messi to win another one, two or three Champions League titles before he retires."
The Argentina superstar, who has a contract until 2021 at the Camp Nou, scored his 33rd goal in the current La Liga season as they remained unbeaten in the league having secured a draw against their bitter rivals Real Madrid in a 2-2 clash on Sunday.
President Bartomeu said that he is extremely happy with Barca’s season, as the team has already won the league title and Copa del Rey but were eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals at the hands of Roma.
Bartomeu said, "I put an excellent rating on Barca's season. A nine. We are very happy with the work of Valverde and the players. We needed this long run of games without losing.
"We have always said that winning the Champions League regularly is not the most important thing. Madrid have had good Champions League campaigns lately. We have to continue working on this aspect to reach the finals.
"Roma's comeback was sad for us. We had the ambition to reach the semi-finals and the final.
"There was nothing wrong with the result. Roma were superior. They passed us by. The important thing is that we recovered later."
