Indian Super League: Eidur Gudjohnsen signed in FC Pune City as marquee player in the third session of the league
The Maharashtra based team FC Pune City landed Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen as their marquee player in place of Adrian Mutu for the third session of ISL. The striker had spent quality time with some of the most celebrated clubs in the soccer universe like Chelsea and Barcelona and now landed in the team of Marathas to share his experience and to make the team stronger.
Gudjohnsen feels proud to join hands with Bollywood theatrical actor Hrithik Roshan, who serves as the co-owner of the club. He collected as many as 88 caps to be termed as the most capped international footballer in Iceland.
The 37-year-old striker won two Premiere Leagues and a La-Liga rank along with a Champions League medal to promote his experience. His career landed in as many as 15 clubs. Eidur disclosed that a number of clubs were in a race to land him but he signed the Marathas after having a glance at their future plans.
“There were other clubs interested in me but when FC Pune City show their interest, intent and plans, I knew this was it. I have the confidence of the coach and will ensure that they find it difficult to leave me out. Everyone needs to be motivated to succeed, and I have the same aim here. I love the sport. I still love going to training every day” said Gudjohnsen.
Antonio Habas, head coach of FC Pune City is too satisfied with the signing of Gudjohnsen and said “Eidur’s has experience of playing at highest levels and a professional motivation to succeed.
