Atletico de Kolkata has officially confirmed about their marquee signing of Helder Postiga for the upcoming season of Indian Super League.
After an injury 2015/16 season of ISL, Postiga again returning to Atletico de Kolkata as their marquee man.
Kolkata based ISL club was previously talking with the Uruguayan star Diego Forlan, but they could not make it possible to bring him. According to sources, now Forlan is in talk with Mumbai City FC.
The Portuguese star Helder Postiga’s willingness to play in ISl, brought him to Kolkata again. In the last season of ISL he got injured in the very beginning of the league after scoring two goals in his debut match against the ISL champion Chennaiyin FC.
But this time the 34-years-old Postiga is looking stronger and fresher than before, as he recently scored 5 goals in his ten appearances for Rio Ave FC in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
After the signing the ATK’s boss said, “Postiga is a big name for any team and his presence will definitely bolster the team for the season ahead and also allow the Indian and International players to learn from him about the way he goes about preparing for a major tournament like ISL. He has been playing good football of late and we hope he will be in his finest form once he is in India."
He has also expressed his thought about the Spanish duo of Javi Lara and Borja Fernandez.
He said, “Along with Postiga the presence of Borja and Javi will add fervor to the midfield. Borja had been the mainstay for the team’s midfield and orchestrated many moves which yielded positive results in the last two seasons."
