Van Dijk Deserves Red Card For The Tackle: Ancelotti

The Napoli manager demeaned for the lack of VAR in the Champions league. This happened after Liverpool’s Van Dijk’s Challenge on the Napoli star Mertens. The Reds qualified after clinching the win at their home turf Anfield.

The Liverpool centre half was booked in the 13th minutes in their 1-0 victory. This happened because he caught the ankle of Mertens after he swept the ball away by slide tackle.

The Netherlands captain claimed that he won that tackle cleanly. But the Italian veteran argued that he is fortunate to be on the pitch.

Ancelotti said: “I’ve seen it on the video, I think it was a red card,”

“There were a lot of questions about VAR. When VAR comes in to the Champions League, it’s too late.”

Salah’s goal made Liverpool through from the group stage at the expense of Napoli. As a result he Italian side would now play in the Europa league after getting nine points in the group.

A draw on yesterday night would have been enough for Napoli to cross this group stage round. But Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson stood tall in the later half. As a result he denied the Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik from close range.

The Napoli manager stated: “We knew that Liverpool would put us under a lot more pressure, they were very aggressive,”

“It was something we planned for, we knew the intensity was going to be a lot different from the first game we played. That was something we had to try and cope with.

“You can’t expect to come to a place like Liverpool and expect to create 10 really good chances, we created one or two and didn’t have the luck that we needed.”
