Former Indian Spinner Has Issues with Captaincy of Virat Kohli

Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli is certainly going through a golden time as everything he touches, be it as a batsman or as a captain, it changes to gold.

Cricket news: However he has lavishly praised Kohli as a batsman

In the recent concluded Trent Bridge Test against England, the Men in Blue won by a big margin of 203 runs. Kohli’s dominance in the game both with the bat and captaincy has put legends like Don Bradman behind.

But there is certainly one aspect in his captaincy which has not skipped the eyes of critics and former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh.

Presently Harbhajan is in England too, doing commentary for the Test matches, where he has expressed his displeasure over Kohli’s policy of changing the playing XI every time he has led the team onto the field since 2015.

Kohli has used 38 different combinations in 38 Test matches which Singh feels is far too high. However he also said that he is ok with it as far as results are coming.

In 38 Tests, Kohli has won 22 Tests surpassing former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly by winning the Trent Bridge Test. Ganguly has won 21 Tests from 49 games.

Kohli is now the second most successful captain in the history of India, just after his immediate predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has 27 wins under his belt.

“Personally I think 38 changes in 38 Tests is too much. But every captain is different, and every team’s dynamics are different. Maybe they want horses for courses, and it works for them,” Singh was quoted by the Times of India as saying.
“They were close to winning the series in South Africa. They have turned things here in England. If the captain believes in it, the management agrees and players accept it, then what you and I think doesn’t matter.”

Harbhajan has lavishly praised Kohli as a batsman. Kohli, who scored 200 runs in both Edgbaston and Trent Bridge, received the Man of the Match award in Trent Bridge Test. He now has 440 runs in three matches, which is way ahead of the second rank-holder from both the sides.

“…Kohli is not swayed by pace or movement, he bats out of the crease, he covers the stumps, plays close to the body and plays late, so he has worked hard at getting better in English conditions,” he said.
