Former Aussie Player Takes A Dig At Debutant Agarwal

India’s latest debutant to the longest format, Mayank Agarwal, had a dream 2017-18 domestic season. The star batsman from Karnataka piled up 1160 runs from 13 innings in the Ranji Trophy.

In the very same season, he slammed 304 not out against Maharashtra. As a result he racked up his maiden triple century in first-class cricket. Moreover his red-hot form continued in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. He scored 723 runs in 8 games at an average of 90.37.

As a result Mayank became one of the highest run-getters in one season of the tournament. Across all the domestic formats in 2017-18, Agarwal scored a massive 2141 runs. He was also impressive for India A which earned him a Test call-up against the Windies.

However he didn’t feature in any games and was surprisingly dropped against Australia. But after Prithvi Shaw got an ankle injury, Mayank was recalled for the last two Tests in Down Under.

Agarwal gives a fitting reply to O’Keefe

Mayank made his dream debut on Wednesday in the ongoing Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. While the entire cricketing fraternity was waiting to witness his debut, former Aussie player Kerry O’Keefe took a dig at him.

O’Keefe had played 24 Tests and 2 ODIs between 1971 and 1977. In an interview, O’Keefe pointed out Mayank’s triple century and said:

Mayank Agarwal scored his triple century against Railways kitchen staff team.

However Mayank didn’t take much time to make O’Keefe eat his own words. He went on to score a memorable half-century on his debut. He showed extraordinary composure in the tough opening hours of the Test.

Mayank was nipped by Pat Cummins when he nicked a ball to Tim Paine during the final over before tea. However he had already scored 76 and laid a strong foundation for a good first innings total as India look to take an unassailable lead in the Test series.
