Wriddhiman Saha to Fly To Manchester for Surgery

India’s regular Test match wicketkeeper, Wriddhiman Saha, who had injured his thumb while playing in the IPL, is all set to undergo surgery soon.

Cricket news: The wicketkeeper has been side-lined for the upcoming Test series against England

The injury had occurred while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2 game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Initially it was thought that the thumb injury had ruled him out of the historic Test match against Afghanistan and the upcoming England series.

But it was later revealed that the 33-year-old had been suffering from a major shoulder injury. Saha had got a posterosuperior labral tear on his right shoulder which would be operated. If the surgery takes place, Saha is slated to miss the Australia tour as well which is slotted later this year.

According to reports, the surgery will take place at the end of July or early August in Manchester. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to let Saha’s wife to accompany him. As a result her visa application is in process and the player will leave for UK at the earliest.

A source who is related to the events has told Cricbuzz, “The surgery will take place either at the end of this month or early next month, depending on when they finally arrive in England. It is too early to speak about his return and a call can only be taken after taking a look at his recovery speed. It could be anything between 6 to 8 months.”

Saha had injured himself during the South Africa tour earlier this year and his rehab process was all goofed up. After being declared fit on March 19, he again got injured to his shoulder on May 7 and was prescribed ultrasound injections in Delhi.

He did not play five matches in the IPL and in the interim period between July 3 and 13, his injury aggravated and the steroid injections did not help much either.

After the surgery is performed, Saha has to undergo a massive rehabilitation process to return again to the competitive format of cricket.
