Newest Additions to the ICC ODI Rankings

The International Cricket Council has added four teams in the likes of Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland and UAE in the ODI rankings list on Friday, apart from the existing 12 countries.

Cricket news: The points will be calculated at 100% from the matches played after May 1, 2017

ICC has released a statement that the results of all the bilateral ODI matches which will be played by these new teams will now be taken into account while calculating the rating points.

The Netherlands earned the status of an ODI team after they won the ICC World Cricket League Championship last year.

Scotland, Nepal and the UAE also earned the ODI status after they finished at the top of the three leading associate nations (along with the Dutch) in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018.

Currently Scotland has 28 points, 10 points behind Ireland, and is ranked at the 13th place. UAE has 18 points, 10 points behind Scotland, and is ranked at the 14th place.

The Netherlands, who currently has 13 rating points, and Nepal need to play four more matches to enter into the points table.

“Teams earn points from each match they play against opposition with an ODI rating. Points and matches played between May 1 2015 and April 30, 2017 will be weighted at 50 per cent, whereas matches played after May 1, 2017 will be weighted at 100 per cent.

“The positions of the 12 Test playing countries, who were already on the table, are not affected by the introduction of these new teams on the table,” the release said.

England, who organises the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, heads the table with India placed at second position with three points behind England. Pakistan, who had won the last ICC Champions Trophy, are placed at sixth position.

The rankings of the newest teams will be based on the following factors:

  • All ODIs played since May 2015 by Scotland and the UAE against Full Members and against each other.
  • Non-ODIs played by the Netherlands and Nepal against Full Members, Scotland and the UAE as part of the ICC World Cup Qualifying tournament 2018.
