India’s young and talented wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant haven’t played since the last Test in Australia. In that match in Sydney last month he scored an earth-shattering 159 not out.

The young prodigy was replaced by veteran wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the ODI format. Dhoni played 50-overs cricket against both Australia and New Zealand. At the same time Pant played for India ‘A’ against England Lions.

Now Pant is back once again to represent his nation on the international stage. Previously Pant played three T20Is against Australia in November. In that series, he had replaced the veteran Dhoni.

Once again Pant has reached New Zealand to play in the T20I series. The three-match series will begin on Wednesday at Wellington. Pant could play in the series as a specialist batsman.

He was even seen in the nets practicing in full flow on the eve of the first match. The cricketer from Delhi made his international T20I debut against England in 2017. Since then he has played 10 matches and has scored one fifty so far.

Pant’s net session impresses Bishan Bedi

In the nets Pant was seen playing some improvised shots of his own making. The left-handed batsman went way out of his off-side and executed a switch-hit against a fast bowler.

Veteran and former Indian captain Bishan Bedi was a representative of the traditional days of the sport. He was clearly left stunned by Pant’s net session. In reply to Pant’s unique hit, Bedi replied, “Bloody horrendous”.

Pant has so far played nine Tests and has scored a total of 696 runs with an average of almost 50. He scored a century on his debut series when India toured England last year.

After scoring a couple of 90s, Pant scored the scintillating 159 not out against Australia. With that he became the second highest scorer for any foreign wicketkeeper on Australian soil. Pant also finished as second highest run-scorer in that series behind Man of the Series Cheteshwar Pujara.
