Chris Gayle Declines to Play against India in ODIs

After the two-match Test series between India and West Indies gets over, both the teams will play in the five-match ODI series starting from October 21 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Cricket news: Gayle has instead opted to play in the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League

The Caribbean side did not have much experience in the Test side and would have wished for more experienced men to join the team ahead of the white-ball series.

In the meantime, reports from Sportstar has reached that experienced Jamaica-born cricketer Chris Gayle has opted to decline the selection for the ODI series.

The 39-year-old player has decided to play in the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League (APL) instead ahead of the series against India.

Gayle will now play for the Balkh Legends which will be captained by Mohammad Nabi. They will play their first match against Kabul Zwanan on Saturday at Sharjah Cricket Association Cricket Stadium.

Reports have also suggested that Gayle will not be selected for the upcoming 2019 Cricket World Cup which will be held in England and Wales. However Gayle has kept himself free for the England series and for the World Cup. Gayle has recently played in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) where he has captained St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Previously the Windies cricket board has issued Chris Gayle a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from October 7 to 21 and has given him permission to play in the APL. Gayle has took to twitter to announce the news.

He wrote, “I am coming to Sharjah to light up the Afghanistan Premier League. Come and join me and support my team #Balkh. All the best to @aplt20official for the newest T20 league in Cricket!”
