5 Records That Kolkata Knight Riders Hold In IPL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest domestic tournament of the country today. This is primarily because of one batsman from Kolkata Knight Riders. Brendon McCullum started the tournament by scoring 158*off 73 balls.

Nobody will ever forget that innings when one speaks of either IPL or KKR. Another stunning thing about the franchise Kolkata Knight Riders is their way of making a comeback.

Although they started the tournament on a winning tournament, yet they were never close to winning the trophy in the first three seasons. It was in the fourth season that they changed the team and made a comeback.

They won their maiden title in the year 2012. They backed it up with another trophy in 2014. Gautam Gambhir led the team from 2011 and was instrumental in both the title campaigns.

KKR is also known for their good scouts who find new talent. No one knew about Sunil Narine. But they purchased him for a high price and later it proved very successful. They really have a good research team. KKR is also known for setting new records in IPL.

5. Highest opening partnership of 184* (VS Gujrat Lions)

KKR had a strong opening combination which consisted of skipper Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa. But in 2017 they decided to experiment and hence they changed it. In the very first match of the season they faced Gujrat Lions.

GL batted first and posted a total of 183/4, which is a good total. However KKR’s Gambhir and his new opening partner Chris Lynn made a mockery of the total. They chased down the total in just 14.5 overs without losing even a single wicket.

Gambhir scored 76 off 48 balls. Lynn was even more destructive as he scored 93 off just 41 balls. In the process Lynn cleared the boundary eight times. The GL balls were taken all over the park and KKR set up a record opening partnership which still remains.
