Rohit Jokes About Letting Chahal Bat At No. 3 In T20Is

Yuzvendra Chahal is always known for his spin bowling. The tail-ender of the Indian team isn’t known much about his batting abilities. But ever since he top scored for his team in the fourth ODI against the Kiwis, he hasn’t stopped talking about it.

India had a disastrous outing with the bat in the 4th ODI, as they managed only a paltry 92. Trent Boult rolled over the entire batting department as he took five wickets. The Kiwis in reply won the match easily by eight wickets.

5 of India’s top 6 batsmen failed entirely so much so that they couldn’t even manage double digit score. It was Yuzvendra Chahal who showed some resistance and scored 18, the highest among his teammates.

Chahal recovered India’s score from 40 for 7 to 92. He also shared a 25-run partnership with his fellow spin-mate Kuldeep Yadav. That partnership was India’s highest for the match.

In the fifth ODI on Sunday the top order failed again. But with the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Vijay Shankar and Hardik Pandya, India recovered. From 18 for 4, the Men in Blue posted 252 on the board. In reply, the Black Caps were all out for 217.

Rohit gives interview on Chahal TV

India won the series 4-1 and the mood of the entire camp was lifted. Meanwhile Chahal hosted interim skipper Rohit Sharma on Chahal TV.

Following the nature of the show, Chahal cheekily asked Rohit if he could bat at No. 3 in Virat Kohli’s absence in the T20Is. In reply, Rohit came up with a very funny answer. He said:

He [Chahal] was our top scorer in the previous match that we lost. But I want you to be the top scorer in a match which goes on to win. I will speak to Ravi Bhai for your promotion to No.3 in the T20s.

The T20I series will begin from from 6 February. Rohit also praised his teammates for bouncing back from the big defeat in the fourth game. This is the first time India won four games out of five in New Zealand.

Rohit delightedly said, “Beating New Zealand in New Zealand has never been easy for any team. Even when we won in 2009, it was not an easy series. They had a strong team then and they play very well at home. The way they have been playing cricket for the last two years, it was never going to be easy for us. But all our boys played well.”
