KKR Hit Again By Injury Woes

Kolkata Knight Riders’ current season has been marred with injuries, as they had previously lost Mitchell Stark and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Now it is time for one of their star player to suffer with injury.

VIVO IPL 2018: Nitish Rana skips training session as he is down with back spasm

The middle-order batsman has been one of the most consistent players for KKR this season. In the previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 29, in which KKR won by six wickets, Rana walked off the field with a lower back spasm while batting on 17.

Before the match against Chennai Super Kings, Rana missed the full-fledged training session. Even the KKR think tank did not give a clear picture of Rana’s availability for the game.

“He’s lower back spasms. The medical team will take a call tomorrow morning,” a team official said.

With the bat, Rana has scored 188 runs from 8 matches at an average of 31.33. He has also won two Man of the Match awards for his performances. With ball, his part time off-spin provided crucial breakthroughs many times for KKR.

If Rana could not play, the under-19 star batsman Shubman Gill will bat up the order, rather than his usual No. 7 position. KKR may also think of Ishank Jaggi as a replacement for Rana.

On the other side, the opponents CSK had an optional training session under coach Stephen Fleming, which was not attended by MS Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh.

The optional practise session was held at Eden and many CSK players like Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Lungi Ngidi and Faf du Plessis joined the session midway.

CSK are in a good mood as they are leading the table with 12 points from 8 matches, while KKR has many things to deal with as they are currently at the fourth place with 8 points from 8 matches.
