The 2019 World Cup is just a few days away now. Almost all the teams are making final preparations for the mega event. The Men in Blue is no different. They recently concluded successful tours against Australia and New Zealand.

They now face the Men in Yellow in home conditions. A total of 20 players were named for the T20I and ODI squads. Among all the selection news, the exclusion of Dinesh Karthik from ODI squad has left everyone stunned.

The wicketkeeper-batsman from Karnataka has done everything right over the past year. He has adapted to every role his team has asked of him. Moreover he totally fit in the role of the finisher in the lower order in recent times.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that this is the end of Karthik’s ODI career. But it would be so soon to come to that conclusion. This is because of his current form which will keep him in India’s World Cup plan.

4. Last chance for KL Rahul

The last part of 2018 and the first part of 2019 has been extremely woeful for KL Rahul. He failed to perform on the field and his controversial appearance in a TV show left his career in turmoil.

Rahul missed the limited overs series against the Aussies and the Kiwis due to the ban imposed on him. After his ban was lifted, he played for India A and scored back-to-back two half-centuries.

As a result he was brought back in the ODI mix in the home series against Australia. If Rahul gets into song, there are few who can rival his effortless stroke play.

This is why the selectors decided to give him a final chance to prove his mettle. If he fails to impress this time again, Karthik will be back in the team in a jiffy.
