Five Players Who Might Not Play the 2019 World Cup

It is the ultimate dream for any player to represent his beloved nation at the highest stage, and for cricketers it is to represent their country in the ICC World Cup.

Cricket news: These players are currently struggling with their form in ODI cricket

All the cricketers work hard day and night to fulfil this dream, to play at the biggest cricketing stage ever and to feel that beautiful feeling to help the team clinch the glorious title.

Despite all the hard work, sometimes it is injuries or form that shatters the dreams of many big players and leaves the hopes of the fans diminished.

The 2019 World Cup is fast approaching and there will be many big names who will eventually fail to make the ultimate squad. Here we look at five big names who might not play the elite tournament.

5. Angelo Mathews

The former Sri Lankan captain is undoubtedly going through the worst phase of his career. Recently he was down with many injuries and has always tried to come back stronger.

But his equation with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) worsened after the team’s poor performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup under his captaincy.

He only managed to score just 38 runs in two games and Sri Lanka subsequently exited the tournament right in the first round. After that Mathews was dropped from the team and the primary reasons were given as his ‘poor fitness issues’ and ‘poor running between the wickets’.

Mathews is not having a good year as he scored 315 runs from eight innings, out of which 176 came in just two innings. Furthermore he does not bowl often and has taken just 3 wickets since 2017, among which 2 came in the same inning.

With the inconsistency and the trust issues with the management, it is highly likely that the veteran cricketer will make the final squad for the World Cup.
