Casemiro Does Not Want To Blame Cristiano Ronaldo after Super Cup Loss

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro who plays Real Madrid recently said that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo is definitely missed in the squad but he has his faith in the remaining members and their new coach Julen Lopetegui.

Football news: The midfielder has confidence in their new manager and says life can go on without their departed stars

Real Madrid has missed the chance to bag this season’s first silverware as they lost the Super Cup to their city rivals Atletico Madrid by 2-4 goals after extra time in Tallinn on Wednesday.

The season started for the first time in many years without the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who had previously signed for the Serie A giants Juventus.

Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos cancelled Diego Costa’s opening minute goal, but the Atletico star netted his second forcing the game to extra time where Saul Niguez and Koke added two more goals to outclass the three-time Champions League winners.

This meant after Bernd Schuster in 2007, Julen Lopetegui became the first Madrid coach to lose the first competitive match in charge. Lopetegui had replaced former France legend Zinedine Zidane as head coach this season.

Casemiro, who was substituted in the second half, as he showed signs of injury and hobbled while been taken off, said that he has full faith on his new coach and backed him to deliver at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Sure, we cannot cover things, Cristiano showed here that he has been the best in the world," Casemiro said. "But it is already past, we cannot keep thinking about him.

"We have to talk about the players we have. We want to make a stronger, more solid team, but Cristiano is already in the past."

"It's still the beginning of everything," he added. "Julen is doing a great job, trying to maintain the illusion, which is not easy.

"We have won four Champions Leagues in the last five years. We have won almost everything, he is doing a great job maintaining the players' illusion of winning.

"It's still too early to talk about Julen. We cannot cover Julen's work by tonight's result."

Casemiro continued: "Making excuses is not my profile or that of Madrid. There are no excuses.

"Atletico scored four goals against us and I think we have also done a lot of good things. We have to congratulate Atletico and keep working."

"I do not speak of specific mistakes because when we win, we all win and when we lose we all lose, they are team mistakes," the Brazilian added.
