Indian Squads For Aussie Series; Rahul In, Karthik Out

India are getting ready to face Australia in their home ground for two T20Is and five ODIs. The series which will begin from 24 February will be India’s last international assignment before the World Cup.

Mayank Markande took a five-wicket haul in the four-day game against England Lions on Friday. As a result the leg-spinner has received his maiden international call-up. BCCI has announced 15-man squad for the T20I series.

Bhuvi gets rested

KL Rahul has been included in the squad after failing in previous tours. As a result this could be his last chance to prove his mettle. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar played all the matches in the New Zealand tour. As a result he is rested for the T20I series.

Pacer Umesh Yadav is selected for the T20I series. It will be interesting to see if he gets any game. Umesh can be in contention for the World Cup if the selectors want four pacers.

Vijay Shankar performed impressively against the Kiwis. As a result he is backed to the hilt and booked his place in the squad. Pacer Siddarth Kaul didn’t get a game against the Black Caps. He is also retained and would want to impress if given an opportunity.

Two separate ODI teams

After the T20I series gets over, the ODIs will begin from 2 March at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. BCCI has announced two separate teams for the five-match ODI series.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli will return as captain after being rested in the New Zealand tour. Siddarth Kaul has staked his claim in the first two ODIs. Bhuvi has been rested for the first two matches. But he will return for the last three matches played in Ranchi, Mohali, and Delhi respectively.

KL Rahul was dropped for the ODI series in the Australian tour. After two decent knocks in the unofficial Test series against England Lions, he has got himself back in the setup.

Interestingly Dinesh Karthik has been left out from the entire series. Karthik was part of the ODI series against New Zealand. In his place Rishabh Pant has been backed.
