India one step away from making history: Constantine

The Indian head honcho believes that the Blue tigers deserves to be in the position they are continental stage now.

The Men In blue is on the verge of making history.

In 1964 India ended this AFC Asian cup as a runner up but at that time the tournament in Israel was a Tigers affair, following a round robin format.

In this current Asian cup format the Blue tigers have gone home from the group stages only in the year of 1984 and in 2011, but this time they have the chance to make it through to the next round  to the Asia cup knockout for the first time ever.

Today India only need a one point from this game to make it through to the next round  and the English manager is pleased with his team mates.

He said: “We’ve done a tremendous job in the last four years. Credit goes to the backroom staff and we have a fantastic team behind the team,”

In march 2015, the Englishman got appointed as a manager of Indian football team at that stage his main focus was to get qualify for the Asian cup, let alone go a  step further, but as the things stands right now they might get qualify for the knockout rounds in the first time of their history.

Constantine stated: “I am absolutely over the moon that we have qualified (for the Asian Cup). India deserves this, I have said this before and now we are one step away from qualifying to the last 16 which will be massive for Indian football as a whole.”

India won their first match against Thailand by 4-1 goals, and now they will face Bahrain, who drew their opening match against the host country by 1-1 goals, and lost their second encounter by 1-0 goal against Thailand.

About team India’s opportunity to go through to the next round, the coach expressed: “I think it’s going to be a huge opportunity for us to make history again tomorrow. That is what we will try and do. But, we will have a tough game for sure.”
