I-LEAGUE: AIZAWL FC BEAT EAST BENGAL FC 1-0 AT HOME

The Northeast based I league club Aizawl FC maintained their unbeaten record at home with 1-0 win over the table toppers East Bengal FC in a 10th round I-League match at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl on Monday, February 20.

Even though the Kolkata based I league giant East Bengal FC are dominating the league this season, but they could only muster a point against Aizawl FC at Barasat Stadium in their first match of the season.

As the match ended with a 1-1 score line as the 25-year-old Uganda international Ivan Bukenya cancelled out Gurwinder Singh’s own goal to deny Aizawl FC’s win in their opening fixture.

But in their second match of the season the Northeast based I league club Aizawl FC, who are currently standing at 3rd in the table defeated the high flying East Bengal FC by 1-0.

LATEST FOOTBALL NEWS:

As the Mizoram born Indian professional football R. Laldanmawia, who replaced Ashutosh Mehta in the Aizawl squad, scored the only goal of the match to secure a win for the home side Aizawl FC in the 58th minute.

And the win took Aizawl FC to 20 points from 10 matches. They are now within sniffing distance of Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan who jointly lead the table with 21 points each. However, Mohun Bagan has played nine matches, one less than East Bengal.
