PNG defeated table toppers Oman and finished with four points from five games. Canada also had the same points but PNG proved luckier with 0.012 points better than Canada.

The World Cricket League Division 2 is played in Windhoek, Namibia and features 6 teams. This tournament is the part of 2017-19 cycle and will decide the qualifiers of 2023 ICC World Cup, which will be played in India.

Reports suggested that the final and third-place game were given ODI status by ICC previously. Coming to the game, Oman won the toss and asked PNG to bat first. The move was spot-on as PNG lost 5 wickets for 32 runs.

Fayyaz Butt took four of those five wickets. However they didn’t lose hope as Kiplin Doriga (65) and Sese Bau (80) added 129 runs for the sixth wicket and eventually PNG ended with a decent score of 221 for 8 in 50 overs.

Oman also faced a batting breakdown as they couldn’t find a solid partnership. Skipper Khawar Ali carried his bat through as he remained not out on 29 as Oman skittled out for 76 and lost by 145 runs.

Nosana Pokaina took 5 wickets for 10 runs while Chad Soper took 3 wickets for 15 runs. Hosts Namibia and United States also went through to the next stage. Canada narrowly lost out as they and Hong Kong got eliminated to ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League.
