Indian skipper Virat Kohli once again showed the world why he is currently the best batsman. On Friday in Ranchi, none of his teammates could get past the score of 32. But on the other hand Kohli played a sublime knock of 123.

However his beautiful innings went in vain as Australia won the high-scoring game by 32 runs. This was Kohli’s 2nd century in the series, the other being two days ago where he scored 116 in Nagpur.

India were chasing a mammoth target of 314 to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. India’s star openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan failed once again. Even No. 4 bat Ambati Rayudu perished early.

MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar got good starts. But they failed to convert them into big scores. As a result India kept on losing wickets at crucial junctures. However Virat Kohli remained firm at the other end. He scored 123 from just 95 balls before getting bowled by Aussie spinner Adam Zampa. His knock included only singles, doubles and boundaries.

This was Kohli’s 41st century in the ODI format. On the other hand it was his third century this year. Incidentally all his three centuries came against Australia. The Men in Blue ended their innings on 281 as the other players couldn’t replicate Kohli’s performance.
