Cricket is a very uncertain game. A few moments here and there and everything can change in a jiffy. Just a few days back veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni was heavily criticized because of his poor form.
But he came back stronger and hit three consecutive fifties against Australia. He even bagged the Man of the Series award on Australian soil. Many fans who had thought the career of the 37-year-old is over, now wants him back in the playing XI.
The main reason for this change of mind is the poor performance of Dhoni’s replacement, Rishabh Pant. Due to the sloppy keeping by Pant, Australia won the fourth ODI in Mohali. Pant was selected ahead of experienced Dinesh Karthik and got his first game of the series in Mohali.
This was the first time that Pant was keeping in ODI format. However the 21-year-old from Uttarakhand failed to impress with his keeping. He missed stumping and run-out chances. He even tried to copy Dhoni’s blind back-flick style and missed horribly. This infuriated the fans even more.

Fans chant Dhoni’s name
Ever since Pant’s sloppy work, the calls of bringing back Dhoni started. Videos started coming out on Twitter showing fans chanting “Dhoni, Dhoni”. They even asked Kohli, who was fielding at that time, to bring “Mahi” back.
India got 358 on board thanks to Rohit Sharma (95) and Shikhar Dhawan (143). But the bowling and fielding let the team down entirely. There were other fielders who dropped chances too. This helped Peter Handscomb and Ashton Turner win the game and level the series 2-2.
The final game will now be played on March 13 in Delhi. It will be an acid test for Rishabh Pant, who has to do good to book his place in the World Cup squad. It will also be India’s last international assignment before the 2019 World Cup which begins on May 30.
