4. First cricketer to score century in debut World Cup match
So far Kohli has scored 39 ODI centuries. He is now just 11 centuries short from breaking the record of Sachin Tendulkar. However Kohli holds another century record which the great Tendulkar doesn’t have.
Kohli is the only cricketer to score a century in his debut World Cup match. It happened in the 2011 World Cup against Bangladesh. He played a gem of an innings by scoring 100 runs in 83 balls.
His innings helped India get to a winning start in the historic World Cup campaign. Kohli’s century was followed by Virender Sehwag’s stunning knock of 175.
3. Kohli has kept wickets twice in his career
It is a treat for the Indian fans to watch MS Dhoni roll his sleeves up and bowl at the opposition batsman. The instance happened once in the cricketing history so far.
It was the dying stages of the fourth day in the first Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. Dhoni decided to bowl and Kohli kept wickets in place of him.
Another similar type of incident happened in a match between India and Bangladesh at Dhaka. Kohli had to don the wicketkeeper gloves as Dhoni took a break to answer nature’s call.
