MSD Storms Onto Field After Umpires Don’t Give No-Ball

On 11th April, IPL fans witnessed the angry side of MS Dhoni. The CSK skipper was so furious with the umpires decision that he decided to storm onto the field. The video of the incident against Rajasthan Royals has gone viral now.

The last over of the game saw a massive controversy and once again showed the poor standards of umpiring in the IPL. Whether a ball is waist-high no-ball or not, it is usually decided by the square leg umpire.

He then conveys the message to the straight umpire, who further conveys it to the audience and the scorers. But in this game, Ulhas Gandhe had a ‘brain fade’. The fourth ball bowled by Ben Stokes was clearly waist high.

But batsman Mitchell Santner was standing out of his crease. But Ulhas didn’t observe that and was not the best judge to take the decision. He immediately called it a no-ball without consulting the square-leg umpire. The no-ball buzzer went up but Bruce Oxenford overruled the decision which irked MSD.

Dhoni loses cool and storms onto the field

The wicketkeeper-batsman first entered the field and stopped near the boundary for a few moments. He then stormed in to have an argument with the umpires. The animated discussion was about the straight umpire indicating the no-ball.

However the no-ball wasn’t given and Dhoni had to return to the dug-out red-faced. The massive controversial incident led to 50 per cent fine of Dhoni’s match fees. This is because he breached the IPL’s code of conduct.

However CSK won the game as Mitchell Santner hit the last ball of the innings for a six. MS Dhoni was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ in the game for his top-notch knock.
