3 Wicketkeepers Who Can Replace Dhoni After WC 2019

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is one of the best white-ball players India have ever produced. And when it comes to wicketkeeping skills, there is at present no one closer to him.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman have carried the nation on his shoulders for 15 years. He has scored 16,729 runs at an average of 45, taken 621 catches and has affected 189 stumpings.

However for the past few months he hasn’t been in good touch. It seems that the Ranchi-born player might call it quits after the 2019 World Cup. During his tenure no other keeper could replace him. However after India’s most successful captain retires, the team will definitely need his replacement.

Here are some of the players who can don the gloves and replace Dhoni after CWC 2019:

Ishan Kishan

This wicketkeeper from Jharkhand has been in the spotlights for some time now. Since he led the U19 team to the final of the World Cup in 2016 in Bangladesh, selectors have kept a keen eye on him.

He had a good start to the 2018-19 domestic season. Having played three games in Deodhar Trophy, he scored one hundred and one fifty in those games. He finished the tournament with 188 runs with an average of 62.67 and a strike rate of 112.57.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he played nine games and scored 405 runs. Those runs came at an average of 45 and strike rate of 111.57. Due to his India ‘A’ assignments he has played only four Ranji games, in which he struck three fifties.

Ishan has also done well for the India ‘A’ team against New Zealand A in the recently concluded tour. He is also performing well against England Lions in the ongoing series.

Ishan is also a good and safe wicketkeeper. There are very few instances where he has fluffed opportunities behind the stumps. As a result he can well be one of the candidates who can replace Dhoni.
