The wicketkeeper-batsman from Tamil Nadu made his debut in ODIs and Tests way before Dhoni did. But Dhoni’s consistency and impact with the willow pushed Karthik behind the line. However he played as a pure batsman and was often in and out of the side.
Things changed a bit after his heroic performance in the Nidahas Trophy final. He was given the No. 4 slot. However Karthik still failed to prove himself as a pure batsman. Moreover his batting position was also shuffled a lot.
Recently he was given the No. 6 role in Australia and he performed well. Karthik has played as a finisher in the IPL too. There is a possibility that after Dhoni departs, Karthik might be given a longer rope. He might get the opportunity to don the gloves as well as act as the finisher.
