RCB To Play Match With International Women Cricketers

Royal Challenge Sports Drink have launched a new campaign. As a part of it they will host a unique mixed gender T20 exhibition game. The match will be played between few members of Royal Challengers Bangalore and few international women cricketers.

Big name cricketers like Virat Kohli, Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj are expected to play the game. Fans can even vote online to support the campaign. The venue and date of the exhibition match are not yet scheduled.

India and RCB skipper Virat Kohli spoke about breaking gender stereotypes. He said that cricket shouldn’t see any gender and both men and women should have equal rights. He also urged the fans to do the same and not see women cricketers as adjuncts to male counterparts.

“Be it men or women, cricket is one game, and I want to urge fans to break the boundaries that exist in their mind that divides the sport by gender. Equality in sports is ultimately a reflection of equality in life, and if we want a better tomorrow, then we need to say #ChallengeAccepted and start breaking down all stereotypes,” Kohli stated in a press release.

Huge inequality in salaries of men and women cricketers

Indian women team’s captain Mithali Raj also spoke about the campaign. She said that the women team has been acknowledged since the 2017 World Cup in England. But still there are huge inequalities when it comes to coverage and salaries.

“Over the recent years, women’s cricket has made a lot of progress in terms of earning respect from fans and experts, but the playing field is still not equal. The true difference is seen when there is parity in opportunities, salaries, coverage and fan support,” Mithali said.
