5 Players Who Can Be Openers For RCB In IPL 2019

The 12th edition of IPL has finally arrived. With that the Royal Challengers Bangalore have got yet another opportunity to win their maiden title. Over all these years they had the deserving players but couldn’t go the distance.

The main strength of RCB is their batting. However it has been mainly dependent on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. When these two big guns don’t fire, they end up falling apart. Last season apart from these two, only one player managed to score 250+ runs in the whole season.

As a result Kohli and ABD will bat at No. 3 and 4 respectively to strengthen the middle order. This means that they need to have a proper opening pair who can give good and fiery starts to the innings.

1. Parthiv Patel

The 34-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has the ability to score quick runs in the powerplay. As a result the best place for him to bat is as an opener. He can take advantage of the fielding restrictions and give a fiery start to the team.

As Quinton de Kock was present last season, Parthiv could play only six games. In those limited opportunities he scored 153 runs at an average of 30.60 and strike rate of 140.36. However the left-hander from Gujarat isn’t at his best recently.

He had a miserable domestic season and failed to score even a single fifty for his state. The only substantial score was 94-run knock which he scored for India ‘A’ in an first-class game in New Zealand.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy too the Gujarat skipper faltered. From four innings Parthiv could muster just 52 runs. However this IPL season he will be RCB’s wicketkeeper and his best batting position will be at the top.
