Ness Wadia Gets Arrested; KXIP Might Get Suspended

IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab is currently facing a huge off-field issue. This happened after their co-owner Ness Wadia got arrested. This is because he was carrying drugs while on a skiing holiday to Japan.

This sensational event could become horrific for KXIP as this might lead to their suspension. The Operation Rules of IPL suggest that any act of team official shouldn’t bring disrepute to the team, the league, BCCI or the game. If it happens and the person is found guilty, his/her team would be suspended.

A top BCCI official has demanded that strict actions should be taken against KXIP. He has cited the examples of Chennai Super Kings to strengthen his claim. He said that the rules shouldn’t be different for each and other team.

The official has demanded that the matter is strictly dealt by the code of ethics committee. CSK and Rajasthan Royals were banned for two years after their owners were found guilty of betting and other malpractices.

“If they (CSK) can be suspended for 2 years for betting related offences, this is much more serious and why change the precedent now, this has to be sent to the code of ethics committee and definite action needs to be taken against the franchise and the CO-owner. There are no two rules for different franchises. The least is to ban ness Wadia from all cricketing activities for life,” the official was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

Response came from Ness Wadia group

Wadia was arrested in early March at New Chitose Airport in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. This is because the custom officials found 25g of “what appeared to be cannabis resin in his trouser pocket”.

If the BCCI takes any action, then KXIP would surely be in trouble. A member of Wadia Group spoke about the incident and defended the owner. He said, “The judgement is clear. It is a suspended sentence. Hence, it will not impact Ness Wadia in the discharge of any of his responsibilities and he will continue to play the role that he has done hitherto, both within the Group and outside.”

Apart from the off-field issues, KXIP are having troubles on the field too. They are currently sitting at the seventh position in the ongoing IPL 2019. Things look really blur for them to reach the playoffs.
