It was surprising to see the Karnataka batsman getting a central contract this year. This is because since September 2018, Manish hasn’t played any international game. He has failed to create any impression from the limited opportunities.
However he performed excellently in the domestic circuit. As a result he always remained in contention for a national call-up. This is why BCCI had decided to let Pandey retain his contract this year.
23. Hanuma Vihari – ₹1 Crore
Vihari is an extremely hardworking and talented cricketer. Apart from that he is also a team player and does exactly what the management says him to do. It was seen in Australia when he opened the innings, despite having less experience as an opener.
So far Vihari has played only four Tests and has definitely a long career ahead of him. This is the first time BCCI has offered Vihari a contract. He will definitely look to improve his contract with some good performances.
24. Khaleel Ahmed – ₹1 Crore
Team India has been looking for a third pacer for some time apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Recently Mohammed Shami has rose to the occasion. But before that left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed was tested in a few games.
Khaleel is extremely talented but he is a work-in-progress. There are several aspects which Khaleel needs to master like controlling the run flow or bowling well in death overs. Khaleel has got enough ammunition to become a leading bowler in the future. As a result of his hard work, Khaleel got an incentive of ₹1 crore contract.
25. Wriddhiman Saha – ₹1 Crore
The wicketkeeper-batsman from Bengal had a very tough last year as he was marred with several injuries. He was out of action for majority of the year and didn’t play any game. Now Saha has worked extremely hard to regain his fitness once again.
Since Saha plays only Test cricket, he will not feature for India till the end of World Cup 2019. As a result BCCI decided to downgrade Saha’s contract this year. He was downgraded from ‘Grade A’ to ‘Grade C’ for this year.
